Any violation of these rules will
result in the disqualification of the team.
Race rules are subject to change/revision until
May 21st, 2004
1. All participants must be at least 16 years old on race
day.
2. Each team must have three members.
3. All participants must sign a waiver/release, and a document
acknowledging that they understand and accept the rules
and risks associated with this race, and accept financial
liability for damage to equipment provided by race organizers.
4. At check-in, race officials must confirm that the team
is carrying mandatory equipment.
5. Racers cannot have phone or radio contact with anyone
at anytime unless in case of an emergency.
6 . No finishing team's telephone seal may be broken or
tampered with.
7 . No electronic navigation equipment (GPS) can be used
by any team member.
8 . All three team members must be in physical contact as
they cross the finish line together.
9 . Non-participants cannot assist racers in designated
transition areas.
10. A missed checkpoint will result in disqualification
of the team.
11. Race officials and volunteers cannot be asked about
the locations of checkpoints. Teams are entirely responsible
for checking-in at each checkpoint.
12. Racers must arrive at checkpoints as a team and have
their passport stamped.
13. Racers must stay within 100 feet of each other at all
times.
14. Racers must exhibit proper courtesies when using public
trails.
15. Racers cannot litter at any time.
16. Racers must obey all traffic laws and traffic signals.
17. Racers cannot travel on or along railroads at any time,
and must not cross railroads except at designated crossing
areas.
18 . Racers must use designated portages only.
19 . Racers must wear PFDs at all times while on water.
20 . Racers must wear designated mandatory equipment at
all times during each discipline of the race.
21 . Any team that decides to drop out of the race must
report to a checkpoint or call race officials.
22. In the event of serious injury, racers must call 911,
contact race officials, and receive assistance from emergency
personnel.
23. Team members will be financially responsible for damage
to equipment provided by race organizers or sponsors.
24. Mystery Checkpoints. There will be several unmanned
checkpoints with a race official positioned at the checkpoint.
The team must arrive at all checkpoints together. If a team
does not arrive together and a team member is sent ahead
of the rest of the team, the team will be disqualified.
25. All answers must be written on passport. No verbal answers
will be allowed.
26. If a MAJOR Checkpoint is missed the team will be disqualified.
If a subcheckpoint is missed a time penalty of 10 minutes
will be added to the overall time of the team. For example
if you miss the orienteering all together your team will
be disqualified. If you miss 1 point on the orienteering
your team will be assessed a 10 minute time penalty. If
your team missed 2 points a 20 miute time penalty will be
assessed.
27. If a team records a wrong answer they must return to
the check point in which they recorded the wrong answer
and retreive the correct answer.
28. Volunteer referees have the final say on correct answers.
Their decision will stand with the Race Director. All races
must follow the written directions and decisions made by
all race volunteers and the race director, no exceptions
29. Each Racers must carry at least 12 oz of water when
leaving the checkpoint.
30. Teams may combine if teammates drop out but must inform
checkpoint before doing so. The new team will still be eligible.
No Disqualified team or member will be able to combine with
another team or continue on with the race. If a team is
in good standing and a member can not continue, you may
attempt to combine teams with another team or team member
in good standing (Not Disqualified) to make a team of 3
to continue the race. This must be reported to and approved
at the transition area. Team Time will continue with the
slower time of the two previous teams at that point. Any
time penalties incurred by both teams will still be assessed
to the combined team. A new team name will have to be made.
